…graciousness is always better than antics and expressions of non existent self importance
…your fight is with ABC not your co-host
Kelly Ripa made a powerful statement on her return to Live With Kelly and Michael Tuesday, speaking about respect in the workplace and thanking fans for their support.
The host was greeted with thunderous applause as she walked out on the set, then became tearful as guests continued to clap for her and would not take their seats.
‘Guys, guys, guys, our long national nightmare is over,’ joked Ripa at the beginning of the show.
‘Look, I am not – I’m going to be completely honest. I’m fairly certain that there are trained professional snipers with tranquilizer darts in case I drift too far off message.’
She then got serious, explaining to the audience why she needed to take a week off from the job.
‘I always speak from the heart. I didn’t want to come out here and just like say something I might regret,’ said Ripa.
‘So what transpired though over the course of a few days has been extraordinary in the sense that it started a much greater conversation about communication and consideration and most importantly, respect in workplace.’
She later added; ‘Apologies have been made and the best thing to come out of all of this, you guys, is that our parent company has assured me that Live is a priority.’

All beter: Ripa, who fought back tears when the audience gave her an extended ovation, also congratulated Michael Strahan on his new job
In closing: Ripa ended her monologue by saying; ‘Oh, wait. Incidentally, I just want to say one thing. My dad, who was a bus driver for 30 years, thinks we’re all crazy. And I think he’s right. I think he’s right. So let’s get this show started’
Not happy: A grimacing Kelly Ripa was seen leaving her Upper East Side townhouse Tuesday morning
Ripa looked incredibly unhappy and refused to crack a smile as she made her way to a waiting car to be taken across town to ABC Studios.
Ripa went on to say during her opening monologue; ‘There is a commitment to this show and that the people that work here and most importantly to you, the viewers, who have watched us every day for 30 years.
She then added; ‘I am thrilled for Michael. I’m thrilled for you. This is a tremendous opportunity and I couldn’t be and we couldn’t be prouder of you. And everything we accomplished together.’
During her remarks Ripa also thanked the fans, saying; ‘The love the show of support through this bizarre time has been really overwhelming. I really – I needed a couple of days to gather my thoughts after 26 years with this company, I earn the right.’
Ripa then looked at the studio audience and said; ‘And let’s be honest. I know half of you called in sick to be here. So we get each other.’
She got serious again as she went on to say; ‘I don’t consider this just a workplace. This is my second home.
‘This is a place that I’ve devoted myself to not just because of you, our loyal viewers, but because of all of the producers and the crew who work on this show.
‘We have an incredible team. We are incredibly devoted to one another. We are family
Ripa ended by saying; ‘Oh, wait. Incidentally, I just want to say one thing. My dad, who was a bus driver for 30 years, thinks we’re all crazy. And I think he’s right. I think he’s right. So let’s get this show started.’
She then walked over to Michael Strahan who stood applauding his co-host and said to her; ‘I’m so happy you’re back.’
He then told Ripa; ‘I love you. You are the queen of morning television. You need me, I’m coming back to help out.’
Ripa jokingly shot back at him; ‘How dare you! Oprah is the queen of television.’
She also had a little fun later in the show during the daily trivia challenge in which a caller has the chance to win a luxury vacation if they can correctly answer a questions about the previous day’s show.
When the caller seemed to be unsure, Ripa said; ‘Don’t ask me, I wasn’t here.’
At the end of the program Ripa thanked the studio audience and noted what a large number of guests had turned up for the show.
Not loving it: Both Ripa and Consuelos seemed incredibly upset to see photographers outside their home
Ripa looked incredibly unhappy and refused to crack a smile earlier in the day as she made her way to a waiting car to be taken across town to ABC Studios earlier in the day.
She was accompanied by husband Mark Consuelos and a bodyguard, and carried with her a copy of the memoir her friend Anderson Cooper wrote with his mother Gloria Vanderbilt, The Rainbow Comes and Goes.
Ripa walked off the set of the Live last Tuesday and told executives she would not be coming to work that week after becoming ‘furious’ when Michael Strahan told her he was moving to Good Morning America in September.
Reports began to emerge soon after Ripa walked off the set claiming she and Strahan fought constantly, faked their friendship for the cameras, and refused to speak to one another off the set.
‘Tuesday’s show will be broadcast live, and Kelly is going to say what she wants to say. ABC will want to vet her comments, but there will be nothing scripted and no vetting. What she wants to say has not been submitted for approval,’ a TV insider told Page Six
‘Two years ago Kelly was offered Michael’s current role of contributor to Good Morning America. She turned this down as she was committed to Live and didn’t want to give less to the show that she had been focused on for well over ten years and then kept a ratings winner after Regis left,’ said one source close to the popular morning host.
‘Michael then scooped up the role and started saying yes to everything ABC and Disney had to offer.
‘Kelly felt that she and Michael Gelman, Live’s executive producer, were left to be the only two people solely focused on the show.’
The source went on to say; ‘This began creating tensions internally as Kelly and Michael Gelman were having to work to Michael’s schedule as Live become less of a priority for him.
‘Kelly isn’t shocked that he did this as she’s watched him advance his career off Live’s success for years now, she is just disgusted and angry that he did this behind her back with her bosses.’
