Iran’s Instagram’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ Hamid and Elanz on the run from Spider2 police for posting selfies online

Spider 2 a sting operation targeting people breaking the law which includes striking a pose, pouting and showing off luxuriant locks on Instagram which have been outlawed in the country as authorities. This target models and people who posts online.

Elnaz Golrokh  and  Hamid Fadaei the ‘Romeo and Juliet’ couple have been forced to flee Iran after being arrested as part of a crackdown on ‘promoting western promiscuity’ by posting Instagram images.

Striking a pose, pouting and showing off luxuriant locks have been outlawed in the country as authorities target models in a sting operation called Spider 2.


According to reports, authorities seized make-up artist Elnaz Golrokh and male model Hamid Fadaei in January.

They were released on bail and later fled the country.

Though neither have publicly stated what happened to them, on January 30, Elnaz addressed her fans and supporters on social media.


“Before anything else, I am sorry that during this time I have not been able to return the calls made by you dear friends.”

“Unfortunately for the moment I will not be active in Iran, but I will continue my work outside Iran. Thanks for your support and your positive energy. I love you.”

In addition to working as a model, Elnaz is a beautician who runs a popular salon in northern Iran.


“All people love beauty and fame. They would like to be seen, but it is important to know what price they will pay to be seen.”

The crackdown on the fashion industry is part of a broader renewed emphasis on “Islamic values” under President Hassan Rouhani.

According to Iranian media, a total of 170 people had been identified in Spider 2 through social media activity as being involved in modelling, including 58 models, 59 photographers and makeup artists.
