Lottie Michelle Belk, 55, had reportedly been celebrating her birthday and anniversary when a strong gust blew the anchored parasol across the sand and fatally stabbed her in the chest. The The mother of 2 died after she was impaled by a flying beach umbrella that got caught in high winds, police said.

The mental health professional , who recently earned her Master’s Degree in business from Strayer University , was taken to hospital after the incident at 5pm on Virgina Beach, but died of her injuries. Her eldest daughter, Ashley Denton, paid tribute to her mother, describing her as a “loving lady” who had worked in the mental health profession for several years. Lottie Belk also has two step children.
Police said they are investigating the incident, though there is no evidence of foul play, according to WAVY .

Accoring to reports the wind speeds at the time were between 20mph and 25mph.
Witnesses have described the incident as one of the ‘scariest things they have ever seen’.
Hugh Martin, who was at the beach, told WTVR : “It was pretty windy down here.

“Saw the umbrella go up in the air, and literally hit the woman, knocking her to the side.”
“It was probably the most scariest things I’ve ever seen.”
Lifeguards and beachgoers rushed to her aid after the incident before police arrived on the scene at 5.07pm after receiving reports of a woman in cardiac arrest.
When they arrived they found she had suffered a life-threatening injury and she was taken to a Virginia beach hospital where she died.
