The findings, giving a voice to the people: The Chief Justice Jorge Labarga stated during the judicial admonishment of Judge Jerri Collins

“You berated and belittled a victim of domestic violence,” said Chief Justice Jorge Labarga. “You were discourteous and impatient … You raised your voice, used sarcasm, spoke harshly and interrupted the victim.”

Labarga also admonished Collins, a former prosecutor, for appearing to favor the state.

Collins also failed the woman that day, Labarga pointed out, because no one told her she was entitled to defend herself.

Judge Jerri Collins berated the crying, pleading woman – who said she was ‘too anxious’ to face the man who allegedly strangled her at knifepoint in front of her baby, showed no sympathy and threw her into jail for being anxious about testifying against her tormentor.

The woman had accused a man  of grabbing a knife and strangling her in front of her one-year-old child. She didn’t appear in court to testify for the trail

Due to this non appearance, he was found guilty of a lesser battery charge – and she was called in on contempt of court.
