‘It’s worth the year of pain’

Stunning transformation after life-changing facial surgery

Ellie Jones, 20, born with a rare condition occurred meant her jaw stopped growing when she was just eight, and so her teeth didn’t line up. Multiple surgeries has since corrected it.

The 20-year old woman shows off the stunning results of surgery to correct her jaw – which left her needing a soft food diet for six months.
Ellie Jones has a rare condition which meant her jawbones didn’t grow properly so her teeth didn’t line up.

She only discovered it when she went to have braces at 14, and her orthodontist Joy Hickman realized her jaw had stopped growing when she was eight.
That kick-started six years of work, which saw Ellie’s face completely transformed thanks to Joy and surgeon Emma Woolley.
She had her first operation when she was 16 and hasn’t looked back since.
“It was really painful, but had to be done to sort the problem,”

“It was very difficult after, especially as I was eating out of a syringe for about four to eight weeks.
“Then I was on a soft diet for four to six months because I couldn’t really bite down on things. I did lose quite a lot of weight.

“It’s changed my life completely. It’s made me really, really confident in everything I do.”
Now Ellie is hoping to become Miss Wales after learning about the contest on Facebook.
“I wouldn’t have considered doing this a couple of years ago,” she added.
“I was shy before but once I’d been through so much to get where I am now I thought: ‘Why Not, let’s go for it.'”
