Michelle Obama addresses Mental Health

Let’s Change the Conversation Around Mental Health
By Michelle Obama,
First Lady of The United States

The first lady starts a buzz on mental health. Read below…..

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has been a passionate voice on so many important issues, and I’m grateful that she is using her day as Guest Editor to shine a bright light on mental health, particularly childrens mental health, and on the tens of millions of people who suffer in silence – people like Ryan Rigdon.

Ryan joined the Navy when he was 20 years old, and he was deployed to Iraq for the first time a few years later. He served on a team that disarmed roadside bombs and IEDs, and when those bombs exploded, they would rush to the scene to clear any remaining explosives while sorting through unimaginable wreckage and carnage. In recognition of his incredible valor, Ryan was awarded a Bronze Star and an Army Commendation Medal.

But when Ryan returned home to his wife and two young daughters after his second deployment, the war stayed with him. He had constant splitting headaches, nightmares and panic attacks, and his ears just wouldn’t stop ringing. He would pace his home at night, worried that his family was in danger. One evening, he finally hit rock bottom. After laying awake in bed crying, he got up, headed to the bathroom, and prepared to take his own life.

Through my work with service members and veterans as part of Joining Forces – the initiative Dr Jill Biden and I launched to rally Americans to honour and support our veterans and military families – I’ve seen that Ryan’s experience isn’t unique. Like Ryan, some of our heroes on the battlefield struggle with the wounds of war – both visible and invisible – when they come home, but hesitate to ask for help.

Of course, it’s important to remember that most of our veterans don’t experience any mental health challenges at all.

But the veterans and service members who do struggle are not alone – not by a long shot. In fact, roughly one in five adults – more than 40 million Americans – suffer from a diagnosable mental health condition like depression or anxiety. These conditions affect people of every age and every background: our kids and grandparents, our friends and neighbors.
Sadly, too often, the stigma around mental health prevents people who need help from seeking it. But that simply doesn’t make any sense. Whether an illness affects your heart, your arm or your brain, it’s still an illness, and there shouldn’t be any distinction. We would never tell someone with a broken leg that they should stop wallowing and get it together. We don’t consider taking medication for an ear infection something to be ashamed of. We shouldn’t treat mental health conditions any differently. Instead, we should make it clear that getting help isn’t a sign of weakness – it’s a sign of strength – and we should ensure that people can get the treatment they need.

That’s why the Affordable Care Act expanded mental health and substance use disorder benefits and parity protections for more than 60 million Americans and required new plans to cover depression screenings for adults and behavioral assessments for kids.

That’s also why my husband put more mental health counselors in place for veterans and signed a bill to help prevent veteran suicide.

And that’s why, last year, we worked with an organization called Give an Hour and a coalition of other partners to launch the Campaign to Change Direction to raise awareness about mental health, give people tools to help those in need, and change the conversation about mental health in this country. This campaign includes leaders from every sector: business, government, nonprofits, medicine, education, the faith community and so many others.

As part of this effort, we released a list of Five Signs to help people recognize when someone needs help. Signs like agitation, withdrawal, hopelessness, a decline in personal care and a change in personality can be indications that someone is dealing with a mental-health issue. By recognizing these signs, we can help the people we know get the help they need before it’s too late.

That brings me back to Ryan. Thankfully, Ryan didn’t end his life that night. Instead, he summoned the courage to tell a co-worker that he needed help. They reached out to the local VA [US Department of Veterans Affairs], and Ryan got the medication and counseling he needed to start getting better.

Just as people in Ryan’s community stepped up for him, we need to step up for people in our lives. We need to learn to identify the signs of mental-health issues. We need to have the courage to reach out and have tough conversations with our friends and family members — and get help ourselves when we need it. And we need to recognize that our mental health is just as important as our physical health, and start treating it that way.

Visit www.changedirection.org to learn the Five Signs and find out how you can join this movement.

—  a happy accident.

CNN interviewed Olajumoke Orisaguna, during which  her sensational breakthrough from bread hawker to model, and beyond was revealed – they called it a classic case of being at the ‘right place at the right time’.

They caught Jumoke on the set of her first ever fashion photo shoot for April by Kunbi – click here to see the photos.

“I never expected this would ever happen to me,” “My friends have told me they saw me on the TV and they are really happy. My parents cannot believe their own child can become such a success. They are all so happy.”

CNN reports, she ‘has been given a scholarship to complete her education, and a bank has offered to pay for schooling for her two children, aged five and one, until university age.’

On what she thinks made the story go viral, TY Bello said,

“Everyone connected with the story because everybody has dreams.”
“This is a very tough time in my country… Everyone is looking for that magical break… I think this is definitely divine because the way people have connected with it is just phenomenal. It’s a phenomenal story.”

Animal Stories – The Happy Seal

Happiest Seal on Earth

Good memories? It must have remembered something really funny. Having quite a laugh.

Seals are normally quite shy animals the experts say, but this seal never heard that description. The chortling grey seal was beside himself with laughter as he lapped up the sun on a rock in the clear blue ocean

No Woman No Cry – What will it take to Resucitate Jeb Bush

The Jeb Bush Fix

... first there was the $130 million plus and a whole lot of bragging and flexing “we’ve got this down” …don’t you know who we are? … it is our birth right.
… then  my daddy did this, my brother did that, if you don’t show me love, I’m going to bring out my momma.

US presidential hopeful Jeb Bush tweets photo of gun with his name on it!
Photo: mirror
... mummy Bush comes out trudged through the snow(she did a great job) and got him off life support.
….. then big brother ex-president G.W. Bush comes out, still no love.
We the people are simply exhausted with the Bush name and wondering when a monarchy was born and nobody announced it. (I digress).

Somebody forgot to tell them money can’t you love

Republican presidential hopeful Jeb Bush speaks to supporters at the Embassy Suites prior to the Iowa caucus
 Photo: Rex

Now Jeb is flexing his muscles, flashing his custom gun on the net. Desperate time brings disparate measures. A slow death …tsk, tsk, tsk.

Who goes first?  We the people or will the candidate pity us bow out or simply change the tune?  Yes, it is not too late, there is a glimmer of hope and money can buy VERY good help.  This campaign needs an overhaul.  Someone please help!

What do you think folks? Share your thoughts on this matter with a comment.

John Obi Mikel’s priceless away goal in first half injury time gives Chelsea genuine hope – a 1-0 victory in the return in three weeks’ time will be enough – that they can still reach the quarter finals.

According to the Mirror UK Chelsea were absolutely battered at times, completely outplayed and it took some brilliant, last ditch defending to stop Paris Saint-Germain winning far more comfortably.

What is your proper bra size? Chosing the correct bra for your type

“All Breasts are not created equal. Experts have identified seven different type of breasts” – glamour magazine

There are a lot considerations to determining breast type and size. This will include the  width, length, and placement affecting what your set is like.

While size plays a part, the width and length of your breasts and the direction they point is, as well as where they’re placed on your chest, is also important.

According to Glmaour magazine, the lingerie fit pros at ThirdLove make a business out of getting women into the right bras and offered to share their diagrams identifying what each breast type looks like (and which bra’s best for them)

Listed are the various types and shapes

1. Round

If your breasts are a round shape and are equally full on top and bottom, then you’re lucky enough not to need too much support.

The type: East West What it is: Your ladies gravitate toward the outside of your torso, pointing outward and leaving some space in the direct center of your chest. What type of bra is best: A T-shirt bra will give you all the shaping you need.

The type: Separated Sisters What it is: Breasts are fuller than East West but still fall out toward the sides of the body. What type of bra is best: A plunge style, which will help pull the breasts up and together.

The type: Globe-Trotters What it is: Breasts are very round and equally full on top and bottom. What type of bra is best: Since your pair doesn’t need to be moved much, consider a thin, unlined style that offers a light amount of coverage.

The type: Skinny Minnies What it is: Most likely a small cup size, the breast is longer than wide. What type of bra is best: A plunge is your best bet for helping to center and lift your breasts. Depending on your cup size and desired look, consider a bra with padding on the outer curve

The type: Sisters, Not Twins What it is: Both ladies are not the same size and can be asymmetrical in shape. What type of bra is best: If the size difference is enough to be noticeable, shop for a style with removable inserts, allowing you to remove the padding on the side with your larger breast.

The type: Quintessentials What it is: If there was such a thing as a normal breast, this would be it. The shape is teardrop, belling out slightly at the bottom. What type of bra is best: Pretty much any style will work, so shop based on what you prefer, coverage- and lift-wise.

Olajumoke’s Valentine Shot in Apri by Kumbi- Unveiling of a swan

April By Kunbi designer (Olakunbi) explains the idea behind Olajumoke’s valentine shoot

When Jesus says yes, no one can so no. The unveiling of a swan.  Your time is now. Jumoke’s first modeling job.

Olakunbi Oyelese of April By Kunbi today shared amazing photos of bread seller turned print model, Jumoke wearing one of her collections. The photo is from a Valentine postcard she did recently.

Jumoke inApril by Kumbi

 Explaining, Kunbi wrote;

“It’s no news that @Olajumoke__o’s story literally broke the internet last week, and we were reminded about how amazing God’s grace is and that he’s still in the business of turning lives around and blessing us.. I’d wanted to do a Christmas postcard but my schedule last quarter of 2015 was beyond hectic.

So I decided to do a Val postcard instead…Not a lookbook/collection as a lot of blogs have reported. I mentioned in my post last week that I’ll definitely be booking her and I don’t regret it one bit! It was a pleasure working with her and seeing her transform, taking instructions, moving like she’s been doing it all her life….She’s a natural.

Jumoke’s before and after.

Jumoke’s story has forced me to look closer at my surroundings. There’s absolutely no doubt she is blessed but there are a lot of Olajumokes around us…Hardworking and just want to feed and help their families. You might not be able to get that pepper seller a modeling contract, but the next time she says the price for her pepper is ₦100, please don’t price it to ₦30. I’ve been guilty of this, trust me. To think that someone around me works/walks in the sun all day and her profit at the end of the day is at most ₦500. I’m happy to have offered Jumoke her first paying modeling job. May it be the beginning of an amazing career for her. She might not be a runway model but she’s perfect for print and editorial! May God help us all to make someone’s life easier, someone’s load a lot easier to carry.”

Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead in West Texas. Updates…..

Justice Antonin Scalia Found Dead at Texas Ranch. Aged 79

 Texas Gov. Greg Abbott
” unwavering defender of the written constitution.”

Federal officials said Associate Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas. Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa.  Scalia arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.

Chief U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia, of the Western Judicial District of Texas, was notified about the death by the U.S. Marshals Service. U.S. District Judge Fred Biery said he was among those notified about Scalia’s death.
“I was told it was this morning,” Biery said of Scalia’s death. “It happened on a ranch out near Marfa. As far as the details, I think it’s pretty vague right now as to how,” he said. “My reaction is it’s very unfortunate. It’s unfortunate with any death, and politically in the presidential cycle we’re in, my educated guess is nothing will happen before the next president is elected.”
The U.S. Marshal Service, the Presidio County sheriff and the FBI are involved in the investigation. Officials with the law enforcement agencies declined to comment. A federal official who asked not to be named said there was no evidence of foul play and it appeared that Scalia died of natural causes. A gray Cadillac hearse pulled into the ranch last Saturday afternoon. The hearse came from Alpine Memorial Funeral Home.
Abbott said. “We mourn his passing, and we pray that his successor on the Supreme Court will take his place as a champion for the written Constitution and the Rule of Law. Cecilia and I extend our deepest condolences to his family, and we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”
Scalia was nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1986 by President Ronald Reagan.
